FAQ
-
Can the Jack Back Onside support my jumbo RV trailer?• Definitely! The steel in the two 3/16" X 9½" OnSide plates equals a 1" X 3½" solid steel bar! • The outside shackle bolt creates a true monocoque structure, adding strength without adding size, weight or cost. • The center of the jack is only 2¾" from the frame rail, so the upward leverage of the tongue weight is minimized.
-
Why is the OnSide such an unusual shape?• The OnSide design appears eccentric, even outlandish, but it is as efficient and mechanically elegant as it is bold and eye-catching! An instant curiosity, and conversation magnet!
-
Why would I install OnSide facing inside rather than outside the trailer frame?• Less likely fhat OnSide will get in the way of the operator. • Less likely to conflict with RV weight distribution, anti-sway bars, etc. • More mounting options when tongue room is scarce. • Moves the jack 7½" closer to center to optimize balance and stability. • And remember, in all cases you have 12 jack facing options.
-
How do I choose between Jack Back OnSide and OnTop?• OnSide requires only 10 inches of frame space, inside or out, so may be able to avoid obstacles on the tongue. • Two OnSides, one on each front corner, create a powerful Trailer Stabilizing System that can steady front to back and aid in leveling side to side as well! • Two OnSides are the same price as one OnTop, but you can go cheap and electric on both jacks, knowing if a cheap jack fails, there's always a backup jack on the other side! • OnTop duplicates the stock, balanced center mounting, and for RV or horse trailers, may feel more stable than a single OnSide. But (2) OnSides are more stable than one OnTop. • OnTop can bolt-on optional Side Arms to hold (2) propane tanks. • OnTop Maxi can attach (2) batteries, one on each end, and (2) propane tanks on Side Arms, and relocate your jack, AII at the same time!
-
What size propane tanks can be secured with a Propane Lock?• Propane Lock works on ANY pair of same-size tanks on a Double Propane Tank Rack, on ANY type or size trailer, even if NOT mounted on a Jack Back! They lock the tank hold-down mechanism, so are independent of tank height or diameter. If you want to Add Trailer Propane, this is a brief summary of how to do so.
-
Does your Propane Lock work on tanks NOT mounted on a Jack Back?• Yes, tanks mounted on ANY standard Double Propane Tank Rack can be protected with a Propane Lock, whether on an R&M device OR NOT! Displayed below WITHOUT a Jack Back.
-
What size batteries fit on your Battery Platform 1408?• The Battery Platform 1408 is strong enough to hold ANY battery of ANY Group, Type or Size. The battery box can overhang the steel 14" X 8" X 3/16" platform, as long as it is securely bolted. • Add Trailer Battery gives mounting & cabling info for multiple batteries.
-
Can I leave my single battery alone, and just add a second on a Battery Platform? What options do I have?R&M offers you Five Ways to Add a Trailer Battery: • Leave your battery(s) as is, add a second (or third) on a Battery Platform 1408. • Add a Jack Back OnSide or an OnTop or a Side-to-Side, AND a Battery Platform 1408, as illustrated below • Add a Jack Back OnTop Maxi & install a battery on either or both ends. • Add a Jack Back Side-to-Side Maxi & install a battery on either or both ends. • Mount a plywood platform with our Shackle Kit & bolt your battery box on it.
-
How would I use the plywood triangle in the Shackle Kit illustration?• As a handy step to ease reaching or crawling into tow vehicle when hitched. • As a handy working surface for tools, tow bars, pins, etc. when hitching. • As a handy platform for a storage box for hitching tools, wrenches, keepers, pins, etc. • Or use the Shackle Kit to attach bigger plywood to hold recreational items, large equipment, irregular shaped tools, etc., or one or more batteries.
-
Could I shackle plywood under, instead of on top the frame, and recess the box or tool?• Great idea! Shackle Kit work the same up or down. We can't see any downside, and this nestles your accessory between the frame rails - less vulnerable to road debris, more out of the operator's way! • Also, moving the plywood to the bottom of the frame may lower it enough to mount an accessory on the very front of the tongue and still have room above it for the tailgate to fully open. • On top or bottom, you can expand and contour the plywood to mount large or odd-shaped equipment, tools, storage. • In all cases, double check to make CERTAIN plywood CANNOT contact tow vehicle in tight turns!!
-
The Side-to-Side moves the entire front half of the trailer sideways. How hard is it to turn the crank?• A 1/2", 10 threads-per-inch, stainless steel lead screw in a matching 1¼" wide bronze nut moves the Side-to-Side Platform smoothly between low-friction plastic gliders, and takes surprisingly little effort to turn!
-
I own an RV trailer with batteries in back, just behind propane. What R&M relocation options do I have?• Add an OnSide if you have a 10" clear space anywhere on either frame rail. • Add an OnTop or Side-to Side in front of the propane, if you have enough room. • Remove batteries, install an OnTop Maxi or Side-to-Side Maxi in their place, their place, relocate a battery to each end. • Remove batteries, propane tanks and rack, install an OnTop Maxi or Side-to-Side Maxi with Side Arms in their place, relocate a battery to each end and your propane rack with tanks on the Side Arms.
-
How do I attach propane tanks to the Side Arms?• Holes in Side Arms were designed to match mounting holes in the government-defined, industry-standard Double Propane Tank Rack, original equipment on most RV trailers. Just bolt your existing stock rack to the Side Arms and install tanks using the original tank hold down mechanisms. Nothing else to buy! For info on how to increase propane capacity, view Add Trailer Propane.
-
What size propane tanks can be mounted on Side Arms?R&M's Side Arms were designed to easily support the weight of (2) 5 gallon, 20# tanks OR (2) 7½ gallon, 30# tanks. Few larger sizes are used on RV trailers, so ONLY these two sizes or lighter should be put on Side Arms! For practical info on how to increase propane capacity, see Add Trailer Propane.
-
Can I be confident this old, Discontinued OnTop will hold the weight of my trailer tongue?• The Jack Platform for these last generation, Discontinued OnTop models were hand-fabricated in a machine shop from 5" Structural Channel Iron! Corners have thick reinforcing gussets, which extend to the edges on both sides. If your trailer ever encounters forces capable of buckling this hunk of iron, your jack bracket will be the least of your problems!!!
